Nowadays, there are password everywhere from on your Online Banking account to on your electronic devices like the iPad. They provide a lot of security protection to us. But at the same time there is nothing worse than forgetting the password for one of your devices. The same is the case with the iPad.
If you also have forgotten your password for your iPad, then you have come to the right place. But there is a little warning for you, all of the methods listed below involve resetting your device to factory state, so you would lose all data on your iPad. Let’s get to the ways:
Using iTunes
This is one of the simplest ways to deal with a forgotten passcode. This is applicable only if you have previously synced your iPad with a computer. If you have not, then skip to the next two methods. You should also have trusted the computer earlier for this method to work.
- First, connect your iPad with your computer (the one the iPad is synced with) using the Lightning to USB cable that came with your device.
- Open iTunes.
- Your iPad will automatically start syncing with your computer.
- After syncing has finished, search for your device name in the Devices section and tap on it.
- You will see a Restore button. Click it.
- Your iPad will then start the reset process. This might take a while.
- You should be able to restore the iPad using iTunes if you had previously backed it up.
Using Find My iPad on iCloud
This is an extremely easy method, but has a couple of drawbacks: one is that Find My iPad should be turned on on the iPad and the other is that you need an active internet connection both to your iPad and your computer.
- Log on to your iCloud account at www.icloud.com
- Click on the Find My iPad button in the menu.
- You should see a map come up on the screen. Tap on All Devices and choose the iPad from the list.
- A window would pop up on the top-left side of the map with three buttons on it: Play Sound, Lost Mode (This would lock your iPad), and Erase iPad.
- Click on Erase iPad. Before that, verify that the device name is correct. You don’t want to erase your iPhone by mistake.
- Follow the directions given on the screen. After all the steps, your iPad will start resetting.
Note: The iPad needs to be charged for this method to work.
Through the Recovery Mode
If you haven’t synced your iPad with any computer or if you didn’t switch on the Find My iPad on you iPad, then this method is for you. This is a little bit difficult compared to the above two methods, and needs patience to follow. Let’s get right to it:
- Connect your iPad to your computer via a Lightning to USB cable
- Open iTunes on your computer if it doesn’t launch automatically
- Hold down the Power button and the Home button on your iPad. Keep holding them till you see the graphic of a Lightning cable connecting to the iTunes logo on your iPad. Note: Don’t release the buttons when you see the Apple logo.
- A window would pop up on your computer prompting you to either Restore or Update your iPad. Choose Restore and follow the steps given on screen.
- This might take a while, and the iPad may repeatedly power on and off.
- Once the process is finished, set up your iPad as you would do if it were new.
Note: These methods will also work for the iPhone and the iPod.
Whew, that was a lot of work. These methods will work for almost all of the devices, but if your device doesn’t work properly or doesn’t open up at all after the update, then contact Customer Service.
Do tell me if these methods worked for your iPad, and how easy was my explanation to the steps. Cheers!
