SoundMagic is known for making excellent audio products available at a competitive price. The SoundMagic E10C is one such product by the company. The E10 series has always been ahead in terms of innovation and sound. The E10M was the first in the series, giving us a pair of earphones, which sounded beyond their price. The E10S sounded same as the E10M but had dual wiring so that one could switch between platforms with the flick of a switch. The E10C is just the E10S but with a built-in switch.
Performance
After listening to various tracks, I found that the SoundMagic E10C had a fairly balanced soundstage, which slightly inched towards the bass. The mid-tones had good detail and the treble was crisp and clear. One thing that I found was that the treble began to sound harsh at high volumes, and the music felt piercing to the ears. The bass was deep and rumbling, that provided the music a much-needed depth. The detail was extremely good, so good in fact that I could easily hear the faintest of the sounds.
The earphones also come with an in-line mic and stereo support, so they can be used to play games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty. The mic really good and was able to tune out the ambient noise and separate the voice. The feature which separates the SoundMagic E10C from the rest of the competition is its multi-platform capability. This capability is due to the dual wiring in the cable. What this means is that the E10C can be used to listen to music from any platform like Windows, MacOS, iOS, or Android. This meant full volume and play/pause controls on most of the platforms. I found it to be working on most of the platforms, and very rarely failing in the functionality.
Design
For its price bracket, the SoundMagic E10C had an extremely durable build. The wire was made from sheathed plastic, which at first touch might feel cheap and weak but is extremely durable. The wire was also tangle-proof and was able to resist daily wear. The in-line remote, with the volume and play/pause buttons, was on the wire to the left earpiece. One thing that I found extremely convenient was that the right earpiece had a little red mark which really helped save time needed for finding the correct earpiece. Another good thing was the vast number of accessories that you get in-the-box with the E10C. You get a hard carrying case, a computer adapter, 7 sets of earbuds, a 3.5mm adapter, and a cloth clip.
Verdict
If you are on the lookout for a pair of budget of in-ear headphones which sounds good and are durable, then the SoundMagic E10C would be the perfect pair for you. It is currently retailing for Rs. 1700 on Amazon, but can be occasionally found on discounts up to Rs. 300.
